We need to install a long underground, high quality demin water, pipeline. Our goal is to have as less quality loss as possible at the end of the pipeline. Can anyone give us an advise about which material to use? SS is not an option due to its high cost.

Mr Dcasto,
Thanks for your answer, are this 2 materials also able to withdraw contamination from outside. This pipeline will be placed in contaminated soil?

Can you provide info about the contamination?
I know PVC is not suitable in soil contaminated with hydrocarbons because the hydrocarbons will go through the pipewall.

WBos...

Sometimes you have to pay the high cost...

Running long plastic lines underground with a high value content is a recipe for disaster.

Tell the MBA boss of yours that stainless steel is the correct material for this application...... also tell him that he will be responsible for the replacement cost when the plastic line inevitably breaks...

My opinion only

others haved added comments that are correct. PVC and sunlight or olefins create issues. PE is good as long as presure and temps are quantified.

Come on, deionized water leaks are not an issue. It takes a huge, huge contaminated site that would allow leeching out of contamination that would exasperate such a water leak.

Sorry for the late reply.

PVDF is the material of choice for handling demineralized water. PVDF is inert with low extractables and is used at most upltrapure water applications:

If you are really interested in retaining the water quality, then go with the PVDF. If you can accept some degradation, well then go with PVC.
