Density of Electrical Cables/Conduits

I'm looking for information on the weight/density of material for typical industrial heavy duty electrical cable wire as I need to design a cable tray support system.

Anybody dealt with this before?

The cable ladder allows cables to be layed to a depth of 115mm and a width of 600mm so if I can find the density of the cable, I can work out a weight per meter based on the cross sectional area of the cable ladder

Perhaps find out what the cable trays themselves are rated to, then design the support structure based on that.



 
I can't help with industrial cables. Here is a link with information for trays with data cables Have you tried asking the electrical engineer?. The electrical code usually specifies a maximum percentage fill. If the EE tells you the type of cable, the weight and diameter can often be found on cable manufactures web sites. If you want a ball park number for preliminary design, pretend the tray is full of water (±62 lbs/ft3).

In the US the tray's maximum capacity (lbs/ft) is listed as a Class number - eg 12A. The document to consult is NEMA VE-1.

We had weights from our electrical department for various widths and depths of cable trays. We used these for design.

I have been retired for over a year and no longer have access to this data.
