density of extracted body changes in multibody part

Hello all,

I have some multibody parts where 1 body is derived from another via the extracted body feature.
Both bodies have different solid density assigned.
Now every time any feature in the part is changed, the extracted body inherits again the density from the originating body, throwing my weight calculations out of whack.
Same thing happens with material assignments.
Is this intended behavior or a bug.
And does anyone have a workaround?

Thanx

PS, working with NX7.5

if one body is extracted from another body then the density of the extracted body will be the same as the original body - there is no way around that.
What are trying to do ?

Whar are you tryiing to do ?

Sorry about the missed word in the question

Hi Jerry,

thanks for your reply.

The model in question is a complex shaped exhaust muffler , partially filled with mineral wool.
To model the wool and calculate the weight I made an extracted body of the muffler body and added some features ( offset , trim , .. ).

You are saying the extracted body , by definition has the same density, I don't agree.
I am able to assign different density and even different material assignment to the different bodies.
If the densities were by definition identical, I should be able to do this.
Problem is that after a change the density is reset to the original density.

Does that make sense?

bye

RonnyC, I (and others) will prob give you more advice on how to accomplish what you need to do.
But for now I have one question about the company that you are at . . . A long time ago was it based out of Racine, WI ?

wrong guess , try again [bigsmile]

I'm actually based in Europe working for one of the big worldwide exhaust suppliers.
