Describe Aluminum 6061 and T numbers 1

Could someone give me a simple description of AL 6061 and the significance of the T numbers and if I'm buying it in a machined state, what to watch for or be careful of.
I am attempting to supply customers this metal in a machined state in various shapes,i.e. flats, rounds, shapes.
