When creating a new favorite in the hole wizard, how do you change the information in the description box and the description of the hole size? When I created a new favorite in the countersink category, the physical dimensions come out the way that I enter them in the parameter boxes, but I can't seem to be able to modify the descriptions.

Hello,

This appears to be a limitation. There is no way to change the description of the Hole Favorite from within SolidWorks. I imagine that you are trying to get a more informative description for your Hole favorites?

Or are you trying to change the name of the Hole feature in the feature manager? Because, you can change the name of the Hole feature in the feature manager (using F2 or slow double click).

Here are some possible work arounds to change the Hole Wizard description:

1)In your SolidWorks installation directory there is a MS Access file called default.mdb, you can open it in Access and go to the favorites table and change the description. I tried this and it worked; however..

CAUTION: This is not supported by SolidWorks, since no one has tested this and knows the full impact that this could have (i.e. try at your own risk). I believe when you upgrade to SolidWorks 2003, the database might change and you could lose this table.

2) You can delete the favorite and create a new one, with the correct description (this is a lot of work, I know).

hope this helps

Thank you.

I was really just trying to have my own description coming up in the feature manager, without manually changing it. It seems illogical to me that it cannot be changed, but just shows up with the description from whatever standard one that you start with. In my case I end up with a description in the feature manager indicating a countersunk hole with a #0 size, 100 deg countersink, when actually it is a 25/32 hole , 90 deg countersink.

I'm not too comfortable with messing with the database file, especially with the cautions you mention.

Thanks again for your help

2003 allows you to manually edit the Hole Call-outs. I know that does not do you any good right now but at least you know it has been addressed. BBJT CSWP
