Hello all,

I`m trying to Design Anchor chair for pressure vessel using Pv elite software .

Pvelite is using Brownell & young method to calculate compression/top ring governing moment and thk.

As per sketch 10.6 in book , 'l' is measured in Y axis , 'a' is distance from origin in Y axis where bolt load is applied and 'b' is measured in X axis .

in the case , where gusset spacing (b=150mm) > top ring radial width (l=100mm) , gamma1 and gamma2 are obtained from table 10.6 and Moment My > Moment Mx for all cases.

but in the case, where gusset spacing (b = 100mm in X axis) < top ring radial width (l=150mm in Y axis) , b/l < 1 . table 10.6 only specifies gamma1 and gamma2 values for b/l > 1 , so book here suggest to invert b/l ration and rotate the axes by 90 . i`m bit confused about this specific part .

1. am i supposed to just invert b/l , get gamma1 & gamma2 and use 10.38 & 10.39 with l=150 ?? or
2. as now axis are rotated 'l' becomes 100mm , 'b' becomes 150mm and value of 'a' also changes accordingly and then i shall calculate Mx and My per eqs.

Pv elite is doing option 1 , taking Mx as governing moment.
