Design of control points

Hi all, I'd like to know what you've learnt from the design of control points for medium & large sized projects. Things like instruments available & their choice for carrying out the project.

I'm new to this and would welcome any advice.

Okay, I'll take a look. Does the US military paper have relevance with UK sites too?

The Illinois Department of Transportation has Survey Manual that can be downloaded from their website.
By control points, do you mean traverse points located on the ground for use in layout?
