Design of gabions 1

Hi,

I am doing a uni research project (final year) on design and construction of gabions and am trying to find any literature or journals on how to design gabion structures - specifically for use in rivers etc to prevent scour. I can't find much about how to size rock etc. Should the design be carried out in a similar manner to riprap?

For some further information, I have looked at the North America Maccaferri website but can't see much information on how to actually design a gabion system? I'm trying to find the design methods used and any research behind the methods. I don't know if there is actually much out there and am starting to wonder if I should have chosen another topic!

Check with your DOT and look in U. S.Army Corps of Engineers website.

Just one more question - I am looking for the following paper, my Uni has said that they are unable to gain access to it as no library worldwide has it in it's catalogue and the Maccaferri have not replied to their contact. Any ideas on where I might be able to find a copy? It seems to be a prominent piece of literature so it's weird that I can't locate it.

THanks for posting that link. I looked it up as well earlier, but couldn't see how to actually access the paper? It just looks like its a list of what they have in their library.
