What are the factors to consider in the design of a pad eye with steel for the purpose of lifting such as in a lifting beam. I would like to have a copy of the schedule of the specification or standard.

regards.

oohanele, I occasionally need to design some lifting equipment for my plant and decided, just to put things on a sound basis, to purchase ASME BTH-1 "Design of Below the Hook Lifting Devices". Haven't used it yet, but looks to be very helpful. About 60 USD as I recall.

Mike

Obinna,

Have you ever done a calculation on one of these before ? Are you new to your organization ?

Does your company/organization offer to purchase any reference books or are there any older engineers available to whom you can ask questions ?

No...??

I guess that I am growing tired of third-world tank and vessel fabricators that hire brand new engineering graduates, offer them no resources, then ask for results immediately.

No offense meant Obinna, but you too would be somewhat aghast at a person who would walk into a hospital, go into an operating room as say "teach me everything about being a doctor, I just graduated...."

GregLamberson, I recently purchased both, and am not familiar with either one yet, AND don't have copies at hand, but B30.20 is more of a "use and ownership" spec, not useful for design, while BTH-1 is a design spec (standard?).

Both cover far more than spreader beams and padeyes, etc, such as vacuum devices, electrical systems, mechanisms, etc.

I discovered BTH-1 while in the process of ordering B30.20

Regards,

Mike
