Hi Guys,

I am looking into designing a small vacuum vessel less than 6" ID and 20" length. I am thinking of designing it per ASME Section VIII UG-28 guidelines. Has any one had experience doing this? Would you still recommend performing buckling analysis if its designed per code?
Any guideline on deigning vacuum vessels would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Engineer_M, if designed to UG-28 and other relevant rules I'd see no reason to perform further analysis.

I assume you would be fabricating from metallic materials, for best applicibility of the rules a Code-listed material should be used.

At stated diemsnions and assuming moderate design temperature and no large openings (connections), this should be straightforward.

Regards,

Mike

The problem with sloppy work is that the supply FAR EXCEEDS the demand
