I've recently noticed that Mechanica will mesh using any datum points in the model. As I am analyzing a fan blade with 4500 datum points (for profile curves) and I really don't want the mesh to be that fine, how do I tell Mechanica to not mesh using datum points?

The work-around I currently use is to pattern the blade and then cut away the original. I cut away 3/4 of the fan disk anyway to use symmetry in Mechanica so that step is no big deal. I just think there should be a more direct way of telling Mechanica not to mesh to datum points.

Jim,

I thought there was a setting to do this in an AUTOGEM control, but this is not the case. It certainly seems like an "easy" option for PTC to implement/provide for those who need it.

The only other ideas I came up with were basically workarounds, similar to what you are already doing.

Sorry that I couldn't be more help today.

Peter
