DESMODRONIC VALVES??

i know that desmodronic valving is some system used in some ducati engines instead of the traditional intake and exhaust mechanisms, but i cant find any information that explains exactly what are desmodronic valves and how they work, and of course, its advantages. to my knowledge they are valves that permit high rpm in otto engines
