Detension/Retension Suppliers

I'm just now starting to design detention ponds, and was wondering if anyone knows of some suppliers for structures related to ponds. (risers, pipes, anti-seep collars etc)
It would be nice to specify standard products that could be purchased if possible.

Also, does anyone know where I could locate a few standard details or some sample plans for detention basins? I'm about to undertake a design and would like know what common structures and outlet devices are employeed.

If taken a career change and I'm now doing more hydrology and need to brush up on detension and storage.

Any help would be appreciated.

Your state DOT should have its detention/retention basin design requirements with possibly some standard details available.

I've been designing detention and retention basins for the past 18 months and every one has been different. For instance, an ideal basin may be square with 3H:1V sides, but when you consider that it'll be in a residential subdivision and the home owner will want to make best use of the property and will have to mow the sides, then this is rarely your design. I've designed many that were just embankments with outlet pipes and emergency spillways in a natural draw.

Erosion Prevention & Sediment Control has lately become the dictating force in detention basin outlet design, as the city has recently had to embrace NPDES Phase II. Now many detention basins are designed with their initial function as sediment basins in mind. Your state environmental department will be useful here.

My current project is a 13 acre parcel of land in an industrial park. The owners are adding an additional 81,000 sq. ft. under roof to an existing manufacturing facility. We had a project meeting today with the structural, electrical and architectural etc. I'm doing all the civil work.

It's an interesting project and of course they want the plans.. YESTERDAY..

Does your city have Water Quality requirements? This will be a strong factor in your detention basin as you may need to design a wet pond to treat the water prior to discharge. If so, this would dictate the geometry of your basin to a certain extent as a length:width ratio of 3:1 or greater is prefered. If space is a factor, then underground detention might be an option, but the wet pond might be required in addition, depending on the type of industry.

the best place to find info and detail in my mind are the trade shows. A few are APWA National convention, UCT in Jan, Pumper show in Feb. WEF national convention. Most of the gov't engineers attend one or the other and if they have seen something before, it doesn't scare them into saying "no way in my town'. They only like stuff they have some idea of what it does.
