Hopefully someone can help me out here.

We want to have columns erected along one side of our assembly line with a cantilevered arm that extends across our conveyor. We are looking at columns 9' high with a 48" long cantilever to support lights, cable trays, tool rail etc. We estimate that we will place a column approx. every 8'. I want to make sure that we don't hang too much weight from the beam but I'm not sure exactly how to figure out the maximum weight limit per column. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

Jeff

Designing the column will be the easy part, how the column mounts will be the critical feature due to the large moment generated by the weight of what your supporting being so far off center. Of course, this is just my opinion.
