Hi, I hope that someone can help me.

I am currently investigating the crash deformation of a tubular space frame chassis on Ansys (Explicit Dynamics)

Ansys has a number of preset Explicit Dynamic Materials that define the characteristics required to help model the material requirements for use with a high impact collision. Unfortunately however, is does not feature 4130, the closest i found was 4340 (which is a much stronger material.)

Does anyone on here have or could point me in the direction of any information that could help me defining the plasticity characteristics of the material (ideally johnson cook strength data) for an 4130 stainless steel.

Thank you

Ryan

you need to look at the aircraft industry, SAE 4130 is a low alloy Chrome moly steel, not stainless, it is extensively used in welded aircraft steel tube fuselages, look there for analysis.
