Hello all,
I need to determine the shear modulus of UNI and BID glass fiber+Epoxy composites for shear in x, y and z plane.
From what I was able to gather so far, the Iopescu test method, using specialized strain gages, seems to be the most common for this however it requires an expensive test fixture.
Is there an alternative to using the Iopescu method? ... something that approaches the simplicity of a cantilever flexural bend test or a 3 point flexural test using strain gages. Perhaps the value can be computed using other properties (Young modulus, Poissons Ratio)?
For my purposes an approximation of the value is sufficient as long as the potential error is no more than 5%.
Any help on this matter is appreciated.
Thanks,
M
