I wouldn't normally post youtube links on the forum, but these two just cannot be left un-seen and struck a chord with me for many reasons.

Set yourself 2 hours to watch them both, you will not be disappointed.

A brief run down,
The development of the v6 turbo engine, pretty much from the drawing board to the track testing.

Covers design, testing, casting, pattern making, engine testing, ecu development(early electronics!) etc.

With not one cnc machine in sight the videos show just what was involved when doing everything by hand including carving the mahogany patterns.

Two videos by Cosworth you cannot miss.

Hope you enjoy, and that it may bring back memories for some members.

Brian,

Nice links, thanks. That's me going home early today!

back in 1999, an engineering firm wated to be a sole supplier of engineering for our company and the procurment department agreed. during a meeting with them they were telling us about their PLC prorammers doing all kinds of food procesing facilities operations.

I looked over at the VP of engineering that was making a bundle of mula and said "As soon as you replace the ECU on your Porche biturbo with 1 you programmed, I'll let you look at the ECU on our CAT 3600 series engines, look, but not touch"
