Where do I find information on the present state of the art on "Emergency Diesel Generator Protection"? I don't mean relay application bulletins, I am looking more for recent IEEE standards on the subject, or for reference to a relay protection book that treats the subject in detail.

I am to provide protection settings for an old diesel generator. 4.16 kV, 350 kW, 80% Power factor. For setting the negative sequence overcurrent protection I need information on the negative sequence current capability of the generator. The manufacturer does not exist any longer. I would be greatful for some approximate data of a similar unit on the folloing questions:

Generator continuous current unbalance withstand capability, percent of rated current?

Generator negative-sequence current short-time withstand capability, seconds

I know how to set these protections, but I would appreciate some tips on where to gather the necessary information.

Thank you for your help.

What kind of generator? Maybe someone can tell you the exact values.

Dalta right?

According to the Areva P343 application guide, IEC60034-1 and ANSI C50.13-1977 are standards relating to this.

I don't have copies of these standards to know for sure, but you can give them a go.

See IEEE/ANSI C37.102 - Guide for AC Generator Protection. This should be a good starting point. But much of the material is intended for much larger generators.

But if this application is truly an emergency generator in NEC definition, protection should be minimal - the goal should be to keep the unit running as long as possible, even sacrificing generator life to maintain emergency power. The balance between generator protection and maintaining service will be determined by the application.

This is pretty small diesel generator to have negative sequence protection, at least in my experience.
