Hello friends, i m new to this forum.
I have come across two words which confused me.
one is cast steel and another is carbon steel.
is there any difference between these tow steels? and if so in what manner they are different?
and if both are same why to use two different words for them?

Cast steel is a product form, whereas, carbon steel is one of various types of steel. Carbon steel can be supplied in cast or wrought product forms.

All steel starts out as a cast form. To make wrought shapes, bars or sheet, the molten steel is cast from the furnace into ingots, strands or billets. These large section forms get hot rolled (and some subsequently get cold rolled) down to smaller section sizes for the end use product. Steel castings are products where the molten steel is poured into a sand mold to create the finished or semi finished product. Steel castings in general are higher strength and exhibit greater shock resistance compared to cast iron and also are weldable.

When iron has carbon added to it (somewhere around 0.2% I think)and other elements such as magnesium, chromium, manganese etc. are below specific trace levels it becomes carbon steel. When one or more of these other elements are above the certain level it becomes an alloy steel. I.e. Stainless steel is ususally about 18% chromium and 8% nickel.
