diference between pressure transmitter/transducer 1

What is the diference between pressure transmitters and transducers? (for example, I would like to protect a centrifugal pump from low suction pressure by providing a pressure sensor on its supply line, but I don't know much about suitable sensor types and the ways they handle electrical signals)

Transmitter is transmits the signal it receives from actual sensor then transducer then to current(4-20mA) which is sent to lcal junction box-DCS- and which is again converted into the range and you will see actual value on DCS.

Transducer is one which converts actual signal (in pressures) and give output in current.

I think what you intended to ask is whather to use transmitter or pressure switch.If you intend to have trip based on this value, have pressure switch. If you wish to just control the suction pressure( in case you can run dry for few seconds/minutes), have transmitter.
If I am not mistaken, the response time of switch is less than transmitter, if both are to trip the pump. That's the reason pressure swtiches are preferred.



 
Instrumentation people tell me a transmitter is an analog device which has a voltage output proportional to the input signal. A transducer is an analog device which has a mA (milliamp) output proportional to the input signal.

A pressure switch is a ON/OFF device, non-adjustable and adjustable models are available.

If you were interested in data-logging your pump suction pressure, either the transducer or transmitter would work with additional instrumentation.

As responder 22082002 indicates, if you are only looking to shut of the pump at a minimum threshold the pressure switch would be my choice, their cheaper too.

If you are going to do a linear type control I would recommend that you use a transducer or 4-20 mA device. This type device is less susceptible to electrical noise, will allow longer runs of wire and is compatible to almost any PLC / control type device.

To transmit is to relay a signal; to transduce is to convert a signal. A 2-10 V (or 4-20 mA) output signal from a pressure transmitter might directly drive a pressure meter at a control station. A 2-10 V (or 4-20 mA) pressure input to a transducer might be converted to a 0-16 psig air signal or a 8-12 mA output to match the control device range. Basically, a transmitter might send a signal to a transducer to perform a control function.
