Hi,

I am in the process of choosing the appropriate winding for a DC brushless motor. Concerning the drive that will be use to power the motor, is there any difference between driving a motor with start ("Y") and delta ("D") winding?

For example, could I drive a ("D") winding with the same drive used to drive an existing BL motor having a ("Y") winding?

Regards,

Marc

Marc,
The star (wye) 3-phase connection owing no harmonic distortion (vs delta) is standard for almost all DC and AC motor manufacturers now.
But both star and delta phase connections are still exist for small power (less than 200W) motors as for example Maxon and Minimotor. Also both of them maybe controlled from the same servo amp with correct Halls aligment inside motor.

Jeff: Marc have in view DC brushless (!) motor.
