Hi,All
I need advice on following question.

1.We have some boiler piping ISO which shows following note.
ASMEsection 1/ASME B 31.1
Up to my understading all boiler external piping falls under B31.1 and boiler internal and boiler it self falls under ASME section 1 code. Am i correct?

2.ISO also shows code breaks on drawing means some portion of piping falls under section 1(That piping also looks external and not internal) and other portion falls under ASME B31.1.I am confused why they shows breaks when boiler external piping always falls under B31.1?

3,We have some boiler piping which have socket weld fitting and material is SA106C.Is there any MT or PT required on it?Is NDT requirement very with desing temp and design pressure.and if yes, when can I find criteria for boiler piping?

Thanks

I am going to ask a very simple question - do you have an actual copy of ASME B&PV Code Section I and ASME B31.1 Power Piping Codes handy? If you do, the answers are right in front of you.

to further Mets answer, the code break maps are shown in Chapter 1 of ASME B31.1 and the scope section gives a very detailed description of what falls under B31.1 and what does not.

Just to give you an idea, Section 1 covers the boiler proper and piping that goes external up to certain termination points.

If you can find a copy of B31.1-2007 this is all explained.

Please be sure to sit down, concentrate, and read the B31.1 code. At least read Chapters 1 and 2, then do the same for Section 1. You will be a better engineer for it.
