Difference between BS4994 and BS EN 13121:2008 +amendment 1:2010

Hi Expert,

I would like to know what is the difference between this two design code which is use to design the hypochlorite generator. I understand that most people are still using BS 4994 eventhough the new code is out ? Can someone tell me what is the differences and is there any impact if people are still using BS4994 instead of the new code?

The difference is, BS4994 has been used since 1987 (and from 1973 before that): there has never been a case of a tank/vessel correctly designed, constructed, tested and installed failing due to code errors. It is tried and tested.

EN 13121-3 is currently at final (F) draft (pr) 1312-3:2015 (October). As far as I know, no tank or vessel has ever been built to this standard. It is not tried and tested. Despite all objections, it has been forced through by CEN. It uses big chunks of Eurocode..CEN are very keen (obsessed!) on subscripts and there are many typos. However it is better than previous versions. Only way I would consider using is in parallel with BS4994.

First attempt was 2008 (£700) for total rubbish...three or four attempts later we have 2015 version.

I could do wind load (BS4994) in one page; it now takes four.

I am currently designing to BS4994. And, so are the other fabricators and designers.
