i have a question regarding the cable geometry form found in sap2000. I don't really understand the difference between the undeformed length and deformed length of the cable element. My initial assumption was that they were affected by the self weight of the cable, but based on the trials i have done it seems that changing the cross sectional area of the cable does not affect the sag calculation of the deformed shape when you keep the chord length constant. I watched a sap2000 tutorial video from csi and they only explained that the deformed shape takes into account the "strain deformation" while the undeformed shape is the shape of the cable under "no load", which is pretty vague.
