Looking for the good folks of Europe/UK. On the project on which I am working, concrete samples are cast in 150x150x150 cubes - not US/Canada style cylinders. (All dimensions given in mm.) The Contractor's Laboratory and myself are having a bit of difference on the details of casting.
The Contractor's laboratory is casting the cubes in two layers insofar as EN 12390-2:2000 states that layers placed are to be no more than 100 mm - Page 5 Section 5 Procedures, subsection 5.1.2. Hence 75/75 works. The Contractor's laboratory does 25 roddings per layer.
According to Hong Kong's Standards (based on EN 12390) there are to be, in a 150x150x150 cube, three layers of no more than 50 mm per layer rodded a minimum of 35 times - page 38. If using a 100x100x100 mould, 25 minimum roddings. ( ). This document is from 2010.
According to the 2017 Practical Guide for Site Personnel issued by British Ready Mix Concrete Association ( ), Appendix D, page 34, step 2 it is also as per the Hong Kong Standards. - 50 mm layers with minimum 35 roddings.
It seems to me that the BRMCA and HK are using a later version of EN 12390-2 than from the year 2000.
Can someone please confirm if the BRMCA and HK are the current operative requirements of EN 12390-2 - and if so, what is the latest revision year of EN 12390-2. I simply, at this time, require confirmation.
