Could anyone explain the differences between weld overlay and weld deposit? When and where can weld overlay or weld deposit be used? Thanks a lot.

Simple definitions;

Weld overlay is normally used in the context of adding filler metal on a substrate to either provide corrosion protection, build-up base material for dimensions or provide wear resistance.

Weld deposit is normally used in the context that filler metal was deposited using one or more fusion welding processes.

A bit of a nit-pick here, but "buildup" normally relates to same nominal chemistry as the base material weld deposit, while "overlay" normally relates to a different chemistry than the base material, typically for corrosion or erosion mitigation.
