different part colours in photoworks

Hi Gang,
I can't seem to get my assembly to show the different part colours when doing a photoworks render. Can anyone tell me how to do this?

You have to add materials to your parts, either by picking all the features or by picking some features and making them one material and the other features a differnet material. The help should help you understand what I'm saying.

Check out the Lure, at my site if your using SW01+. The materials are saved in the file. If you open up some of the parts and pick the features and click Photoworks\Materials you will see what I have choosen for that features as their material.

You do not need to apply PhotoWorks materials in order to get the rendering to show the colors you have set for each part. Under the PhotoWorks options, go to the materials tab and check "Apply SolidWorks properties for render". When this is not checked, the rendering is done with the material which is set in the assembly. When it is checked, PhotoWorks will use the color of each individual part in the rendering.

But I still think the materials are worth it to apply. Gives it a better look and understanding if you have the proper materials applied...but to each his own.

Agree with you Scott. Here is my problem of the day. I am trying to export tif files from Solidworks drawings to another system user. When I export from a drawing I get monochrome gray scale results. I can export color tifs from the assembly view, but this is limited to screen resolution. I can do color jpegs, but the resolution is not satisfactory. I have the JPEG add-in selected.

Suggestions?

I just saved a jpg using a photoworks and a regular image and they both look great. How did you make yours in Photoworks or a regular jpeg file? Check you settings in Photoworks and "Render Image to file". Then click on options and then on custom and see if the bar is set up in the high quality position. If not pull it up there. You can click OK. Now go back into the option and click on high now.

I know this seems stupid, but I found a bug in this option the other day. I was getting some super nasty 256 colors jpeg files. I found that this option was for some reason saving the Low quality setting in Custom when I specifically asked for High quality and had the high quality checked. So the fix was like I described above.

As for Tiff files you need to see the thread thread559-21429
At the end I posted and email I got from the Topica SW NG. The whole thread is helpful though.
