Dimension Box Calculator Error

I have used the dimension box in SW thousands of times as a calculator by entering values and arithmetic symbols directly. This is a major time saver and error limiting feature. However today, I have found this can no longer be done on my machine via SW 2011x64 SP4. When I do, the error message pops up "Please enter a number between -XXX.XXX and XXX.XXX". Any clues as to what the cause of this may be?

This is news to me, and I have service pack 4.0. Must be another issue.

Try Looking At Helix feature or actually it's a curve not a Feature as it can't be patterned I don't believe SolidWorks considers it one. SolidWorks is filled with little errors like that. Here's a little test for you. What's the largest Diameter Solid cylindrical Extrusion that can be made.?

What size Objects are you designing. What size numbers are you working with?

Today we have found that if one of our admins logs onto my machine the cal feature works again. Also if I am given admin privileges it works. Therefore, it seems I need local admin privileges in one or more areas to use this feature again. Has anyone run into this before and can provide some clues? I guess it is also worth mentioning my OS is Windows 7 Enterprise.

Administrative rights are necessary on the local system in order to perform SolidWorks installations or upgrades. System DLLs and drivers are updated which require administrative privileges. The necessary permissions will have to be obtained to ensure a successful installation of SolidWorks. Windows Power User status is sufficient when using SolidWorks as only read and execute permissions are required to run SolidWorks.

But having local admin permissions is definitely the better option.

I'm with CBL on that, however it isn't likely in an era of IT control. Lots of little irritating things crop up when you are denied Administator priveleges, like trying to get printer settings to stick...
