Hi guys, I am working on a gear blank made from E9310 per AMS-6265 that is going to be Carburized on the exterior gear teeth. All surfaces, with the exception of the teeth flanks, are going to be copper plated. The core hardness is going to be 180-210ksi.

My question is, does this material predictably change diameter during carburizing? And if so, does it grow or shrink.

I can provide a PDF of the shape of the blank if that helps.

Thank you for your help.

Rob

I would expect the size to increase, but you will have to run samples through your furnace and measure them after carburize and temper in order to develop your green size.
