A question for all you SW experts regarding color settings. In part sketches we like to have driving dimensions to be black and driven dimensions to be gray. But in drawings we want both types to be solid black. Unfortunately SW does not offer different color settings for dimensions in drawings from those in sketches. Does anyone else have this issue? How have you handled it? Is there some elegant solution we haven't thought of? It seems to be such an obvious requirement. I have never understood why SW does not distinguish between sketch dimensions and drawing dimensions as far as color. Awaiting your brilliance! Thanks. (We're running SW Premium 2020.)

In the drawing, you can set both references and driving to be black in the System options\colors\Dimensions, Non imported (Driven).

If you want to set dimensions in a drawing to a different color. you need to either use a Layer or use the "line color" feature in the line format toolbar. I use the line color because for critical dimensions I make them red otherwise, they are always black.

"Setup layers. Change dim type to the layer.
I leave them all black on drawings. "
I like the idea of assigning layers, but ... not if I have to do it separately and manually on every drawing.
Doesn't an option setting like that apply to all dim's of that type in both drawings and part sketches?
Is there some general option setting that will automatically apply to dimensions in drawings but not to dimensions in part sketches? There should be!

You can setup templates with a dimension layer as a certain color. You can also save these settings in Document Properties, Drafting Standard, Save to External File. The, in a current dwg, Load From External File.
A macro could be written for this (someone may already have one).
