I am working with fractional inches while dimensioning my parts/sketches. For example, I need to type in 4 5/8" or 3 1/16". How can I do that without having to convert to decimal? Also, I would like to have the dimensions in drawings show up in the same fractional format instead of showing up as decimal like 4.625.

I will appreciate your help.

Tools/Options/Document Properties/Units

You can choose Fractions, Denominator, and whether you want dims to "round to nearest fraction"

Save this as a template for future use

If this is a drwing or part that is a "one out", you can go to "tools", "options" Click on the "document properties" tab and select "units". In the "length units" area select the radio button "fractions". To the right of that, the "denominator" wil become active. Type in the denominator that you want the dimension to be rounded to. Once this is done, you should be able to type in "4.625" and the dimension will read "4 5/8". Additionally, when placing a dimsion, you should be able to type "4 5/8" and the value should be taken. The above process can be done at the part or drawing stage. If you plan on using the fractions all the time. I would make a template for the drawing, part and assembly documents.

Good Luck,

Thanks for the suggestion. 2 more things:
1) when I select "Fraction" in Units, "Decimal" field does not get disabled. So should I enter 4 or 5 in decimal as well in order that the software doesn't round off fractions like 5/32 which are equal to .15625?
2) Suppose I select "Fraction" and enter 8 in denominator field. Then fractions like 3/8, 5/8 will appear fine. But what if I also want to enter fractions with different denominators like 5/16, 7/32...? I want to be able to enter any fraction with any denominator without rounding off.

Thanks again.

Set your denominator to the lowest that you want to be using ... 1/32 or 1/64 or 1/128, whatever. You do not need to do it per dimension, SW will still output 3/4 (not 48/64) or 5/8, etc, as req'd.
Leave you decimal set to whatever you want to show. But I doubt your machine or fabrication shop will appreciate a dimension set to 5 places.
If you dont want to round off any dimensions, deselect that switch.
