Dimensioning threads - Drafting

Whenever I try to dimension threads, with either the length dim type or the diameter dim type, the dims that come up are the "gray" dims, denoting that the dimension is a "weak" dimension. And of course, upon updating, these dims turn red. How can one go about creating "strong" associative dims for threads that are in the actual model and are also turned on in the view?
