ok here is what im doing i have 3 dim layers dim, dim1, & dim2. Now im in a layout and i have the vport display locked and im creating bran new dims and the arrow,text,etc.. are comming out huge as if i was diming in paper space but im not so if i goback to model and look at the props they look fine in compairecen to other dims so i have used match props to correct it but i then have to turn around and change the layer again

has anyone else had this problem if everyone helps everybody the world will be a better place

Is your dimscale set to match your scale in model space before you create the dimension in model space and then when you go back to paper space are you setting the dimscale to match your scale in paper space?

???im not sure what you mena its set to 1" as i see if everyone helps everybody the world will be a better place

Are you drawing a full scale 1:1 in model space and is your zoom xp in paper space also 1?

soo Mable are you saying that my dimscale needs to be 1' not 1" is that it and what effects will this have on the rest of my diminsions cause in my dimstyle i have it so it uses an overall scale of 1.000 do you know the setting im refering to if everyone helps everybody the world will be a better place

I think we are having trouble understanding one another. Could you tell me if this is an accurate summary of your problem? You are dimensioning in model space, your overall scale in the dimstyle is set to 1 and your dimensions are comming out huge. Is that correct? (Stick with the 1 not 1'.) In model space does 1" actually measure 1"? In paper space what is your scale factor? (the zoom xp of your viewport window) One other thing, are you using model space (tiled) to get to model space when you are dimensioning?

OK Recap

1 my drawing drawn using arch units 1'=1'
dimscale says 1"
layout/paperspace is a ledger size sheet 11X17
it is 1=1 but the vport is zoom extents no scale
i am double clicking in the vport adding diminsions and this is where it happens new dims are funny looking and way oversized even though they are on the same layer and same dimstyle if everyone helps everybody the world will be a better place

Your viewport window does associate a scale factor to it even though you have zoomed extents in the window. If you list your viewport window it will show a Scale Relative to Paper Space. To understand my point type a piece of text in paper space and then scale it by the number you got from the scale relative to paper space and you will see why your dimensions are the size they are. (they are being scaled by this number) To avoid this problem you could give your viewport window a zoom xp factor and then have your overall scale in dimstyle equal to that when you dimension in model space. Don't forget to change your dimscale back when you add items in paper space though.

Another thing you might want to check, we just ran across it here: What is the size setting for Style (type in Style on the command lline), that is set for that dimension style, i.e. current dim style is Dim1, and Dim1 is set to use text style RomanT.

One of our customers gave us their standard templates, and the text style was forced to 6" for their standard dimensions. When you create another viewport, with a different scale, the text size stays the same (defaulting to 6"), regardless of the dimscale factor, or text size settings in dimstyle. (At least I think that is what we found) The easiest solution for us was to set the text Style size to 0" and let the specs in the dimstyle set it.

well let me explain it a little better the dim style looks kinda like this
1'-6" arrow heads
6' base line spaceing
2' offset from origin
1' text with the style set to 0'-0"
everything set to BYLAYER
arch units with a precision of 1/16"

So if i try to dim thru a vport (whats called floating model space) my dims are apparently the size they would be in paper space does everyone understand what i mean now if everyone helps everybody the world will be a better place

Do you have the tickbox for "scale to paperspace" ticked in dimstyles? That causes all sorts of weirdness.
If not, go into the dimstyle manager and use the 'Compare' button to see whats different between a dimstyle you know is fine, and the one thats behaving strangly. Then you at least know which settings to play around with.

Are you actually switching to model space to put in the dimensions or just putting the dimensions on top of the view port, so to speak, which would then be in paper space.
When you are in model space and your text is 1'-0" tall, then it wouls appear as 1/8" in paperspace (i'm assuming 1/8"=1'-0" scale)
If you are in paper space and lay down a dimension, the text is still 1'-0" tall and so when you are looking at an 11X17 sheet and the text is 12", then yes it is very huge, bigger than the sheet in fact.

CDH
im in paperspace ok now i double click with in a viewport so im in floating model space so i can edit and draw objects in model but still see paperspace and when i say create a 5' dim and say the text for it is 6" my text is 6" paperspace wise do you understand if everyone helps everybody the world will be a better place

Ok I understand what you are saying and I've been trying to replicate. Just need some info
1.What is your dwg scale?
2.In your dimensions styles, what is your overall scale in the geometry section. Also what is the text height you are specifying under annotation.

oops, I also need to know what you have set as arrowhead size under geometry
