Hi all,

I do not have a copy of Din 1050 (as referred to in Din 28086).
Does anybody know the origin of the allowable value of 637 MPa for Hertz contact stress in DIN 28086 (refer Table 3, note 1)?
How does this value relate to say material tensile or yield stress?
How would one calculate this value for "non-St 37" material?
Thanks in advance
John

Hi John
I think I have a copy of the DIN you mention - however I am unable to let you have a copy as I am at present renovating my house and all my books are packed in boxes and stored in my garage. I have a small spreadsheet for lifting lugs in accordance with DIN 28086 which I made and the allowable Hertzian contact pressure is 2.71 x Material Yield at temp.
Not sure where the 2.71 factor comes from at this stage.
Hope this helps you
Regards
joe
