DIN 6325 is a standard for dowel pins. I am trying to find a conversion in order to specify a SAE steel. From what I have read to date, through-hardened alloy steel should be used. I noted AISI 8740 during a Google search, but I would appreciate if anyone has more detail.

DNI 6325 has been replaced by ISO 8734. The through-hardened parts require 52100. Here are some basics:

C 0.95 to 1.1
Si 0.15 to 0.35
Mn 0.25 to 0.4
P 0.03 max
S 0.025 max
Cr 1.35 to 1.65

550 HV 30 to 650 HV 30
