Direct Cyclic Analysis

Hello!

While conducting a direct cyclic analysis, is it required to establish a static step before the cyclic step? If so, why should we use the static step and what conditions should be set up then?

No, it’s not necessary to precede the direct cyclic step with general static step. But if you do so then, according to the documentation, elastic stiffness matrix from the end of the static step will be used as Jacobian in direct cyclic analysis. Loads from static step are included in constant part of Fourier expansion of residual vectors while plastic strains from the end of static step are used as initial conditions in direct cyclic analysis.
