Hello

Which direction thickness is lenghtened on e.g. when I make sqare (in shell) 50x50 and assigne section with thickness 5, what are output diamensions of future with assigned section?

Thank you in advance.

I am not 100% sure as I have never tried this myself, but I would guess, the thickness is "in the direction of the thickness" i.e. projected half to the left and half to right of a walled shell.

Hope this is right and that it helps.

Ok, can we force on Abqus the direction of lenghtening of thicknening?

Thanks a good question... I don't you can, looking at the options for shell thickening. Would cause you a problem?

Using shell elements? When defining the section, there should be a menu with the shell thickness definition with options top, middle, bottom, and some user defined one too. This means "This surface of the extrusion will be sitting on the reference geometry." Assuming an outward normal, 'top' would extrude the material thickness into the part, reducing the cavity volume, and 'bottom' would thicken the part outward.
