Hi all!

Is it possible for CATIA v5R19 to somehow delete entire directory structure when four users open same project?
I am having this kind of situation and I suspect it has something to do with how CATIA opens same multiple files on different computers simultaneously.
My question is, is there a best practice when multiple users access same project?
I just want to point out that my four users dont use any kind of PDM, just simple network file share.

Thanks for reply!

Boris.

Hi,

For sure your CATIA didn't do this, nothing to do with how CATIA opens files....maybe one of your users did it by mistake.

Normaly you should have a read only area from where users can load the files without being able to modify them. They should be able to modify files localy on their computers and only some special users can overwrite what others work in the read only area so everything will be updated finally.

Still, there are some "light" PLM solution, you should use them....

Fernando

All four users had project opened, still files (entire directory) where deleted...really strange...

Never heard that one before (and I have heard many:))... are you sure they are deleted? not just a case of someone moved it? accidental drag and drop?

They haven't deleted directory. It happened in the morning when four of them opened project. Someone wanted to save project and it failed.
I've run File Scavenger on server but it didn't found deleted files.

Sounds less and less like a software issue and more and more like a hardware issue. Have you checked if there is unaccounted disc space? I would guess a sector or volume boot record issue. I have managed in the past to recover data from discs with file systems issues (FAT/NTFS) by connecting it to an linux system otherwise contact the IT people to recover the directory stubs.
