Disinfecting fire mains serving sprinklered systems

Does anyone know if NFPA states that newly constructed fire mains that serve sprinklered buildings or private on-site fire hydrants need to be disinfected (chlorinated) before put into service? Case in point, I have 10 projects in Southern California that the contractor wants to know if he needs to disinfect on the private side of the double check detector device. He has disinfected between the public water main up to the backflow device. Thanks in advance!

No such requirement exists in NFPA 24, which governs the installation of underground fire protection water mains.

The only time this comes into play is when there is known conditions of MIC.

From NFPA 13, 2002:
15.1.5* Water Supply Treatment. Water supplies and environmental conditions shall be evaluated for the existence of microbes and conditions that contribute to microbiologically influenced corrosion (MIC). Where conditions are found that contribute to MIC, the owner(s) shall notify the sprinkler system developed to treat the system using one of the following methods:
(1) Install a water pipe that will not be affected by the MIC microbes.
(2) Treat all water that enters the system using an approved biocide.
(3) Implement an approved plan for monitoring the interior conditions of the pipe at established time intervals and locations.
