Display Blanks on Rotation > Insert:Component

For top-down design, one creates an assembly first and then inserts components into it. I created a simple sketch in the assembly and then inserted an empty part using the following cmds:
Insert:Component:NewPart
Specify filename
Specify Plane:Front
Immediately after creating this new sketch, the sketch geometry from the assembly stops refreshing during rotations. It refreshed before the new part insertion but afterwards stops working. Neither geometry from the assembly sketch nor from part sketch is refreshed during rotation. The one exception to this is that it does display geometry in the new part sketch when editing that sketch.

If I supress the new part, the assembly geometry will refresh during rotation.

There is hardly anything in the files so this is unlikely to be a "large assembly mode" setting issue.

I'm running SW01+ SP0. NVidia Quadro2 MXR with latest Detonator drivers. OpenGL HW acceleration is on (option for SW OpenGL emulation is greyed out). When I rolled back to default WinXP video drivers (removing Detonator drivers), same problem.

I suspect this is a settings issue but it could be a bug. Any help?

I don't know about the API for in-contexting parts in and assembly. But here is what you need to do before you start in-contexting.


[red]ALWAYS![/red] Insert all the parts in the assembly and mate them (constrain them) [red]BEFORE[/red] incontexting them. You will get problems like you are with rebuild lights not going off, pieces not working properly, and circular references. plus more than that can happen. [red]So Becareful!![/red]


Top down design in SW takes lots of practice...believe me I know. I made a VAR (Application Engineer) Drop his jaw when he saw my first top down in-contexted designs. For 2 reasons one he was completely impressed at the amount of work that had to be thought out before even started using SW, plus how it responded when I changed the height, width, depth, and item configs per design. But the draw back to the entire project was the depth of in-contexting went VERY, VERY, Deep and when I started having problems. There was nothing they could do because of how deep the in-contexting went. One AE worked on only that project for over 3 weeks I think and could never find the one or more problems with the assembly. We found a workaround and used it.

Sooooo be careful and good luck!

I'm A LOT better at in-contexting items now and I have found a lot of the tell, tell signs to watch out for when in-contexting.
