this system is not running that well, when you have a assembly up, and you spin it around, you have to wait a few seconds for the parts to change from rough blocks, back into fully displayed parts..
I know i've found the fix before, somewhere in preferences, but i can't figure out where ?

Make sure it is clicked to disable it.

Preferences -> Visualization Performance -> Large Model Tab -> Fixed Frame Rate (needs to be unchecked)

Sorry, the previous post was wrong.

GREAT , thanks, i knew it was there somewhere

Still don't know why Fixed Frame Rate is on by default !!! Every new PC, have to remember to turn that option off. Plus most of the other Large Model settings.

Like many options, it was decided to turn these on by default so that users would become aware of them and also so that those who needed them would get the benefit immediately.

The real issue is human nature. If we were to turn off options like these, users would never find them on their own. In the case of this particular set, users with large assembly files would simply start to complain about performance since these sorts of things sneak up on you over time. In this case those users would be getting the benefit of these large model preferences. Now for those that just think they are a nuisance, well you'll take the time to find out how to change them, but for the others who slowly find the display performance going down as theri model grow will probably not try and find out if there are options to change that as many will assume it's just the price they are paying for having large assemblies.

Therefore, the decision was made many years ago, that first we will try and preset those items that enhance performance as well as any new options that we introduce. That way, users will get the benefits automatically and they will also learn about new options without having to go look for them since, as I said about human nature, if you're ignorant of something you will probably never think about it even if it might have helped you. But if you do notice something, even if does NOT help you, you will take the steps necessary to find out what's going on, as was demonstrated in this case, someone went to a message baord and asked.

John, glad to see you're recovered enough to contribute to these forums.

I asked the question I did, as the same question occurs time after time. In fact, I know of many users who simply think that the "blocks" are just the default behaviour of NX !!! And unless they participate in these forums, or have webkey accounts to contact GTAC, they'll never know otherwise.

But the 'blocks' will not show up until their models got to the point where their graphics card could no longer maintain the user-specified frame-rate, so it's doing exactly what it's supposed to be doing. And I would recommend that rather than 'turning it off', that you instead try setting a lower target frame-rate. That way it will take a bit longer before the 'blocks' start to show up, but that it will still be helping to maintain at least a more acceptable level of grapics performance.
