In the Attributes tab under Displayed Part Properties, is it possible to permanently hide a category for all files?

For instance the DB Component Instance I have no use for, but it is always showing up at the left side of the panel making it necessary to scroll over to what needs to be accessed.

Right clicking in the header of the attributes pane and hiding the category only stays until the file properties window is closed then is back when re-opened. Configuring the columns does the same thing, it temporarily closes the category which is back as soon as the window is re-opened.

Any ideas?

No you can't do that.
I was just on the line with GTAC yesterday over thir new display method for Attribute Arrays.
They now display their content in the "List" format which clutters the Bulk Editor.

To your question:
Being able able to have Attribute Display Groups would be a powerful tool for those of us who store and use a lot of data in our parts.
I plan on putting in an ER request for that.

The goal is to be able to configure multiple groups.
And, be able to assign a default Group. Such as "Parts List"
This is the one that always appears when you first pull it up the editor.

But be able to select another group from a drop down list on the fly.
Such as "Revisions" or "Purchasing"

This would be a force multiplier for the usefulness of the bulk editor.

I'm doing something similar now using the Tooling Wizards BOM tool.
But this kind of function should be in the native bulk editor.

IMHO

Thanks 3dr for the reply. Here's my confusion. In some files where I've played around with trying to set column order in the part properties/attribute pane the order seemed to have stayed. I don't know how it stayed but it did, whereas new files always show up with the same order. It almost appears that it can be set at the file level, but I've yet to figure out what made it happened.

I'll submit an ER and post it here.

Not sure exactly what you mean but there is a method to control the order the columns display in.
But it's a commitment that has to be made through out your entire system.
Including all seed / library part files that contribute to the construction of all models & assemblies.

If you can do that, you can use the bulk attribute editor much like a parts list spread sheet.

The column order is Alphanumerically driven.
The attached is how I've set mine up using Attribute "Alias" assignments to get the order I needed.

Ok, so I just learned something.
I see you were using "configure columns" to arrange them.

It never occurred to me to try and drag them into a different order!

Your correct, that is stored on a part by part basis.
The bulk Editor has to display the columns in the same order when selecting more than one part.

For instance,
if you have a part thats an assembly with 4 other parts in it.
All four children and the parent parts have the same column order.
Go to the assembly . parent part and shift the order of one or more of the columns.
Then select the assembly and the four children, open the bulk editor.
All of the parts will have the order of the top level assembly you re-ordered.

Select one or more of the children and you will see their order.

That's interesting, so I had to try it on one of my assemblies. Caveat is that when the assembly file and components do not have the exact same sets of attributes it will not update the component. It does give very good insight into the way it functions though.

Very helpful information, thank you.
