Displaying Imported file. 6

Hello All:

I imported a step file in to SW. Everything looks find in part mode but when I brought the part into a drawing view the part did not display when in wireframe, hidden lines, or no hidden lines. It did display in the shaded.
I am using SW 2001Plus SP3.0. Has this been corrected with later releases?

The reason why nothing shows in the drawing file is because the file must have come in as surfaces. Make sure you have try to knit into solid selected under the options when you open the Step file. If it still comes in as surfaces then there are probalby gaps between the surfaces. See thread559-33798 , JosephV does a great job explaing things that will help with files like this. BBJT CSWP

We've run into this quite often. When your imported file will not knit into a solid (which is usually the case) do the following.

- Insert your view(s) into the drawing.
- open the "Insert, Model Items" dialog box.
- From here it's easiest just to check the "All types" box and select OK.
- The items should now appear in your views.

I was not aware of surfaces being one of the options in Insert Model Items. How long has that been there? I used to support and train this stuff and never recall seeing this. I guess this falls under you learn something new every day. BBJT CSWP

I was originally pointed to this by my VAR so I'm not sure of the history of Insert Model Items.
I just loaded SWX2000 for troubleshooting another issue (see my other post) and notice that the surfaces option existed in 2000.
I agree with the learn something new deal. Just when you think you know much you find out differently (in my case at least).

Great responses!

Just wanted to let everyone know that there is another way of displaying the surfaces in the drawing (instead of Insert Model Items).

In the drawing Feature Manger, find the surface, select it with the Right Mouse Button, and the select Show from the pop up menu.

Unfortunately, you would have to do this for every surface and every view. So in conclusion, Insert Model Items is better.
