We need to weld a P22 Fitting with 35Ni-25Cr material. DO
we need a buttering layer to have a good quality weld.

Can any one sugest the WPS for this weld?

What code? what service temp?

The typical approach for high temp service would be to butter the P22 fitting with high Ni filler and then PWHT as required.
Then you can make the weld with matching (or suggested) filler and no need to PWHT.

From the looks of it, this has to be for elevated temperature service based on the 35Ni-25Cr being a non-standard heat resistant alloy, ASTM A 297 Grade HP. I would develop a WPS based on ASME Section IX qualification with Inconel 182, AWS A5.11, ENiCrFe-3 filler metal. Butter (1/4" thick) the P22 side of the weld joint, PWHT at 1300-1350 deg F for 20 minutes, weld out using Inconel 182, AWS A5.11, ENiCrFe-3.

Metengr, have you seen anyone using the P87 weld filler? It was designed for welding P91, but should work well for 22/23 also.

Ed;
Yes, it is a filler metal developed by EPRI and is an upgrade over conventional Ni-base wire for DMW's. The only problem has been limited availability.

metengr, any references on that P87 filler? It's unknown to me.

brimstoner;
Do you have access to EPRI documents?

I can provide further information if you can contact me via ET management.

On the P87, I have seen literature from Metrode in the UK that they are making it.
