Can anyone point me in the right dirrection for finding ASME VIII and IX code for joining dissimilar metals I have both code books. I am looking to join WC9 and 410ss looking for filler and qualification. Thanks

You will not find any material/filler metal recommendations in the ASME B&PV Code for joining various materials. This is left up to the design engineer.

What is your specific application, including service temperature?

ASME Section VIII simply requires welding procedure specifications to be qualified per ASME Section IX (primary: Base metals P no. 5A to P No. 6; Filler metal F No.) ASME VIII does provide for recommended preheat temperatures and required PWHT. Selection of filler metal should be based on compatibility from a strength and ductility standpoint and coefficient of expansion characteristics based on operating conditions -- E/ER309 or Nickel base alloy fillers.

One point that I want to add to the excellent posts above is this, your combination of joining cast 2.25 Cr-1 Mo (SA- 217 WC9) to 410ss can be complicated because of the hardenability of 410 ss. I would recommend that you seek advice from a welding or metallurgical engineer concerning selection of a suitable filler metal and weld joint design. This is the reason for my asking what is your specific application. If the preheat and PWHT parameters along with the selection of filler metal are not carefully evaluated, you can have a serious problem.
