Hey all,

We are trying to develop a model to quantify the dissipated energy in subgrade layer of a pavement structure car, SUV and truck loads due to Rayleigh damping model assgined in subgrade layer. What I inferred from ABAQUS manual, made me choose ELVD output parameter to extract dissipated energy data. The problem is that dissipated energy from the ELVD parameter for an SUV is almost equal to the energy created by a truck, which does not make sense. On the other hand, displacement response between different vehicles were as expected. Also I checked ELVD for other layeres in which rayleigh damping was not assigned and it was not zero!
Is ELVD a valid output for obtaining dissipated energy data? If so, what do you think might be the problem in the model?

Regards,
Mostafa
