Distance of Power from Data

Hi I'm involved with a project in Mexico where they want to run power and data within two inches of each other without any sheilding on either. Normally I site the NEC and get out of this but Mexico doesn't use it so I need some sort of documentation to prove this is not a good Idea. Does anyone know where I could find something like that?

What kind of power and what kind of data? This is not always a bad idea. In fact, some people run commincation on the power (viz. X10.

The power is 120v power utility and Isolated ground,to run computers, phones and task lighting. The data is cat 5e to work computer and telephones. The runs will travel together for 12ft. in the raceway at a distance of least then 2 inches apart. This is all I know of the situation I,m a full country and a half away from the project and my contacts don't speak very good english.

Sorry I can't help on the regulation side, but I ran into a similar stuation years ago. Power and signal cables were run together in an overhead tray by a local contractor. It would have been prohibitively expensive to replace the cable (being in a very remote location), so we sheilded the runs externally, for the distance that the two cable types ran together. We then grounded one end of the sheilding. We used grounding braid and slipped it over the ends of the cables one at a time to limit circuit outages. This could be a viable alternative if the locals will not bother with proper cabling techniques.
