Distance of Reinforcing Pad Weld to Channel Flange Weld - ASME VIII-1 8

I checked ASME VII-1 (UW 14) but I didn't understand if it's applicable to the case shown in the attached image. Is there a prescription in the code for the minimum distance between the weld of re-pad to the circumferential weld of the flange?
I did a research on site on this topic but in every post were mentioned the opening and this confused me.

As long as the limit of reinforcement does not go past the circ. seam and in to the flange, and the repad weld does not overlap the circ seam it's fine.
 
Section VIII Div. 1 allows you to place the repad directly over the weld seam (see UG-82). In fact if you want you could even put the nozzle opening directly on the weld seam (see UW-14(a)).

What's permitted by the Code and what's considered good engineering practice are often very different things.

You must take into account the difficulty of welding in small distances and the possible repairs.
Also consider stud mounting and channel flange tightening during in-service inspections

A good rule of thumb is 2” clearance from edge of weld to edge of weld. Although VIII-1 will not require this, as stated above. It looks like you may be dealing with an S&T exchanger. If so, API660 states this exact recommendation in their Appendix A, under Fabrication
 
Don't forget you'll have to allow for tool access should the main run flange need to be unbolted.

If you placing two groove welds close together don't forget to account for the bevels :)
