Division 1 Replacement

Dear All

I have heard contradictory comment on the future of Division 1 of ASME BPVC Sec. VIII.
Is it the intent of the code to put the VIII-1 aside and use VIII-2 instead?
If it is a possibility will it replace the VIII-1 in its entirety or just selected parts will undergo changes?

Nothing has been decided yet. Even if a roadmap is laid out, it will take at least 5 publication cycles (10 years) to implement.

That said, VIII-2 is a MUCH better book to work with. And with Code Case 2891, manufacturers holding U-stamps should be applying for U2-Class 1 stamps prior to their next joint review. In my opinion, Users should be requesting Div 2 Class 1 vessels as the default (rather than Div 1).

That said, in the interim, there will be some portions (design rules) of VIII-1 that will be deleted and replaced with a reference to VIII-2 (Common Rules Initiative).
