Please advise, whether the diesel-locomotive cable (DLO), say, 535 kcmil, 1 cond, can be used for industrial application and run in the open cable tray?

Only if it is listed as "Tray Rated" or marked "TC" (Tray Cable) on the insulation. For cable to be tray rated, it must pass what is called a "Vertical Tray Flame Test" wherein the cable is hung straight down, the insulation is set afire and the fire cannot spread up the insulation beyond a certain distance from the source. You will find that MOST DLO cable 1/0 and larger will be TC labeled, but you cannot assume that, you have to check. If it is, you can use it in tray.

The bigger issue tends to be terminations.

Thank you Jraef, I will verify that.

I agree with Jeff. In a recent NEC revision cycle, terminations used on DLO cable must be specifically rated for such use.
